Send Me Data Viz

In the summer of 2017, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art launched a mobile service called Send Me SFMOMA that allowed anyone to request a piece of art from the collection via text message. Millions of users asked for everything from “send me something abstract” and “send me kisses” to "send me friends” and "send me away". Dan will tell the story of the visualization he built for SFMOMA using the data from the Send Me project. He’ll describe the design process, share early concepts, talk about the challenges encountered along the way, and discuss the role of data in art and art in data.

Speaker Notes:

Dan McCarey is a data artist. He is the Principal of Maptian, a data visualization and mapping studio and the founder of Graphafi, a tool for visualizing high dimensional datasets.

Viz & Tell
Get up in front of your peers and talk about a viz project you're working on for 5 minutes. This is a great opportunity to get feed back on your work and to practice your presentation skills in a safe space. If you are interested in presenting, then please email ([masked]) to let us know you want to talk.

Speaker Notes:

You're one of the coolest people in the DC area. You really like data visualization and you're excited to show your work to others. You're also a kind person who can provide constructive criticism to others.
