DataPhilly October

Summer of Maps

Sarah Cordivano (Program Organizer) and Kevin Frech (2015 Fellow) will discuss the accomplishments of the 2015 Summer of Maps Program. The program is a three-month long fellowship facilitated by Azavea which gives student data analysts the opportunity to perform spatial data analysis for local and national nonprofit organizations. Fellows receive a generous stipend while expanding their skills in a professional environment, nonprofits get pro bono analysis work that supports their mission. Fellows use highly advanced data science and visualization skills to analyze data and processes of our nonprofit partners.

Thinking in Data

Ben Garvey (RJMetrics) - We'll learn why data visualization works and how to use it to overcome cognitive biases.  We'll also dig into modern Data Expression and how we can use it to explore huge data sets.
