What we're about

This is a group for anyone who loves '60s-'70s folk music sing alongs - acoustic guitarists or folks who love to sing. Non professionals get together monthly to take turns singing the songs that defined us at an earlier (ahem!) age. Anyone who knows how to welcome others and share the limelight is welcome. This is not a performance venue. We go around the circle. Each person chooses a song (from a shared songbook). Guitarists and singers play that song. Then, next person's turn. Please no drums or banjos (they tend to set the pace a bit adamantly - sorry). If you have Rise Up Singing, please bring it!
An earlier version of this group existed (2008? - 2015?) for seven years, then meeting at Oakwood Starbucks and elsewhere. Here is a Facebook link to the book we used in those days, courtesy of Lary Eaton.

Dayton Folk Music Sing Along 2022 at Library or Riverscape

Needs a location

Play guitar? Bring it! Only sing? Fine! Got a Rise Up Singing Songbook? Love to have 'em!

Our Face-to-Face meeting are mask free so if you are ill - especially if we're meeting indoors at the library - please either wear a mask or join us when Hou are well.

We meet at around 5:30 on the 2nd Thursday. Lately we meet indoors at the library (upstairs in meeting room - ask at desk when you arrive) or, in good weather, at Riverscape behind the Enormous Information Universe bus stop structure. Restrooms will be available to us. Arriving late us fine.

Please join our Facebook page - at Facebook, search for "Dayton Folk..." and before you can enter the rest of the words, our group name will be listed. We are the Dayton Folk Music Sing Along Meetup.

At our Facebook page, the Lary Eaton songbooks are available (for free) so that each group member can print off their own copy from a file found there or can download it to their tablet or phone. (Meetup doesn't allow us to post a file for distribution.)

We are a sing-along group. We take turns going around the circle choosing a song from one of the songbooks for the musicians amongst us to play so the rest of us can sing that song. Then it's the next person's turn.

This is not a musicians' venue, although musicians get acquainted at our group. We are grateful to have our musicians, but we are a democratic group where every member is valued equally! If you want us to sing a familiar song not included in our songbook collection, please bring a dozen or so copies of the song (with guitar chords and lyrics) so that everyone can sing it.

We aren't wonderful singers or musicians, we just like to have fun!

Type of music: 60s-70s pop music sing along with some traditional folk music.
