Have you been wondering what all the fuss is about? Join us in an introductory TIG class.
Students will learn the basics of cutting, welding, its application, and safety. Class will cover angle grinding, cutting with a bandsaw, basic info on types of welding and welding machines. We will be practicing on mild steel and making a cube to gain some competence in TIG welding. We will discuss TIG applications and welding different types of metal. Realistically, students may not finish. Advanced class will provide opportunity for completing and finishing techniques.
TIG (officially GTAW - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) welding is a welding process that allows very high quality welds, even on thinner metals. TIG welding is generally viewed as allowing the highest quality welds of all arc welding processes because it allows for more heat control as you weld. It is the most challenging to master so is also very satisfying to learn. TIG is the process commonly used on customer bicycles, motorcycles, cars, etc. Welding with TIG is the cleanest process with little to no splatter.
Student must wear natural fiber clothes (100% cotton, leather, hemp, bamboo, linen, etc) and shoes. Closed toed shoes. Covered arms and legs (long sleeves and long pants).
If you have your own safety equipment you can bring it. Bring reading glasses if needed (must see up close).
