Our Silhouette paper cutter can be used on all types of paper: printer paper, cardstock, and even stickers! You can make designs on your computer, print them out, then have the edges cut out and/or scored with the paper cutter to create so many beautiful projects!
This course will teach you how to use the Silhouette software and paper cutter, but also how to use the free vector graphics software Inkscape (a free alternative to Adobe Illustrator) in order to make designs for the Silhouette. Through a follow-along project, we will learn how to use the essential tools required to tell the paper cutter where to cut and/or score, how to make basic designs, and even turn an image into a vector graphic to be printed and cut out.
Our teacher, John Olthoff, will also have some paper-craft life-like birds cut out and ready for you to make, showing you that you can do more with paper than you imagined! He'll also briefly discuss some design principles for how to create your own 3D paper cutouts.
Please bring a laptop (either Mac or Windows) so that you can get hands-on as we go through a project to learn the commands. Before class, please download Inkscape and the Silhouette Studio software at the following links:
