Do you know how to 3D print, but you don’t know how to make your own designs? Computer-aided design software (CAD) like OpenSCAD and Fusion 360 are complicated and difficult to learn. Have no fear! There is an easy to use and quite powerful free online tool called TinkerCAD that can get you started quickly.
In this class, you will learn the basics, such as primitive shapes, creating holes and groups, using the workspace tool, ruler tool, alignment and reflecting tools, etc. The instructor, John Olthoff, will also share some tips and tricks that he's learned from from experience to save you time and sweat!
Finally, you'll learn how to make a custom shape in Inkscape (or Illustrator, if you have it) that goes beyond the primitives in TinkerCAD, then import and extrude it into a 3D shape.
Requirements: Please bring a laptop (either Mac or Windows) that is wifi web-enabled. A mouse is strongly recommended over just a trackpad. Create an account at tinkercad.com (https://www.tinkercad.com/) in advance to speed things up, and install the free vector-graphics program, Inkscape (https://inkscape.org/) if you want to get the most out of the class.
