Why not breathe new life into an old pair of shorts that may not be wearable but still have some wear in them? Join us for upcycling at its best as we transform a pair of shorts and a piece of fabric into a fully lined tote bag.
This class is for both young teen and adult beginners and those who want to brush up on their skills with a fun resourceful new project. In this class you will learn the basics of sewing, including the parts of the sewing machine, how to thread the machine and wind the bobbin. You will learn how to draft your pattern and how to pin, cut, and sew your fabric. You will also be provided with specific instructions on how to convert shorts into your very own one of kind tote.
You will be provided with a pair of shorts, fabric for the lining, thread, pins, etc., and all items that are needed to complete the project, and each participant will receive drafting and step-by-step instructions to take home. Participants will also have the option of bringing your own sewing machine and scissors, but we will have those items available on site.
The 3-hour class will cover:
1. the basic workings of the sewing machine
2. drafting and marking the pattern
3. measuring the lining to match the bag
4. pinning and cutting the fabric
5. sewing the bag
6. attaching the lining
