Join us every third Monday of the month for some science and fun! Bio Mondays is an opportunity for anyone interested in DIY Bio to come and see what it's all about. Each month we'll feature a new lab skill and some discussion about all things DIYbio at Decatur Makers.

Bio Mondays are free and open to Decatur Makers members and non-members alike. Note, that if you do wish participate in the hands-on activities there may be a small fee.

This month we'll be putting our brand new thermocycler through its paces by testing some your favorite foods to see if they are GMO. You'll learn how to extract DNA and how to use that DNA to detect a common sequences inserted into GMO foods and plants. Bring your own or choose from some of ours.

Please note, if you plan to bring your own samples to test, you want to adhere to the guidelines below. Corn or soy derivatives work best. Only a small quantity is needed for testing.

Good Results:
- Fresh corn silk
- soy flour
- corn bread mix
- tortilla chips

Fair Results:

Event is free, but donations are encouraged to help offset cost of materials.
