I highly recommend the introductory self-defense class. In a short amount of time, I learned some extremely valuable skills and already feel more confident in my ability to avoid or handle an attack situation. (And you don't need to be big or strong - Combat Hapkido teaches moves based on anatomy and biomechanics as well as psychology and strategy that allow a smaller person to get away from – and even take down – a much larger, stronger person). I learned how to break free when someone grabs my arm, and how to get out of a chokehold. I also learned the importance of being aware of your surroundings and not thinking of some places as safe -- women who think they're in a safe place make easy targets. I've always been a little intimidated by the thought of martial arts, but I really liked the instructors. I found them to be very down-to-earth and not the least bit intimidating. Every woman should take this class.
