Delhi One Toastmasters Meeting
When a new member takes a main role for the first time, novelty in thought is to be expected. This Friday on August 3, 2018, TM Sonu Kumar Chettri debuts in the role of Toastmaster of the Day with the theme of Innovative Businesses. The current business scenario offers numerous example of innovative businesses – Paytm, Kinder Joy, Byju’s, Paper Boat, etc. which have successfully applied Innovation for the growth and success of their business. So, what is Innovation? Innovation is defined as the generation, development, or use of a new idea, design, product, or method. Defining innovation in business terms, Paul Graham encouraged entrepreneurs as follows: “Understand your users. You can envision the wealth created by a startup as a rectangle, where one side is the number of users and the other is how much you improve their lives. The second dimension is the one you have most control over. And indeed, the growth in the first will be driven by how well you do in the second.” Further, Tom Murcko challenged businesspersons seeking innovation to: "Think about innovation as an Easter egg hunt. Opportunities are more likely to lie outside the boundaries of where others typically explore, because these areas have been less exhaustively searched already." One section of a typical Toastmasters meeting in which innovation has the maximum role to play is the Table Topics session in which the speakers are encouraged to move away from the conventional ways of thinking and come up with new approaches and ideas to deliver memorable impromptu speeches. Let’s see what our Table Topics Master, TM Puja Kumari has lined up in store for us, and endeavor to approach Table Topics in a new way! Every innovator deals with increased risk while trying something new. The ones who succeed are the ones who keep a keen eye on the possible chances of failure and try to learn from their mistakes before these become blunders. To nip mistakes early in the development cycle, the innovator must befriend the critics who identify possible errors and suggest better methods to achieve success. Our General Evaluator, ACB, ALB Sayan Ray and his team of evaluators have undertaken this noble task of helping our speakers and role players during the Evaluation session; thus, ensuring the success of the meetings at Delhi One Toastmasters. If novelty of ideas appeals to you and a new game is your game, make sure that the attendance sheet of DOTM’s 153rd meeting has your name
