Wadsworth and Deer Creek Canyon Road, Littleton, CO
Half of you don't even need me to write anything up-so, for the folks who have done this in the past....same goes...same meeting place, same concept of meeting and being ready to ride by 5:45 (and, yes, I will still probably be the last one there;) (see info on Potlucks below, too)
For everyone else, for whom this is new-
Here goes-it is roughly an 18 mile roundtrip ride for which half of it (the first half) is a steady, gradual, uphill climb. Then, the second half, is a return trip back down the same hill we rode up and back to our cars.
It is truly good for all levels-fast, slow...because, the format of any "out and back" ride that I lead, is to welcome everyone.
All speeds and abilities are welcome (those of you who did this for the first time, can chime in if you had the same fears that so many others have...and tell folks that it really is friendly and we look out for one another) The group quickly segments and everyone rides at THEIR own pace. That is the only way anyone will have fun-otherwise, one person is just dying from going too fast and feeling like they are holding someone else up...and that isn't the case. The goal is just to go as far as you personally want to go up the hill....anyone can turn around whenever they have just 'had enough' (and even faster riders sometimes have days like those:) I know I do.
Also, with it being "out and back" it is super hard to get lost:)
Other notables, there are two official portapotties along the way (hold your breath)-no real place to get water though, so bring enough (and certainly, some fuel, just in case)
It can be quite cold on the descent. When the sun goes down in the canyon, the temperature drops. Fast! Better to have long fingered gloves and a jacket and to not need them, than to need them and not have them...don't have long fingered gloves, I have tons. Let me know in advance and I will let you borrow a pair.
POTLUCKS! So, once a month, on the THIRD Tuesday of that month, we have a post ride Potluck that has been working out amazingly well. We have it on the side of the road where we park and have a casual, bring whatever you want, bring camp chairs, bring a table if you have one, any other helpful "picnic supplies"...those are definitely a fun night to look forward to! If you want to help me with being a "Potluck setter upper of tables, etc" that is always welcome!
