East Plum Creek trail (Castle Rock)
We'll walk part of the East Plum Creek in Castle Rock. • What we'll do We'll hike a portion of this paved trail. We'll start at the parking lot along Meadows Pkwy and take the north branch to the trail end and then back. Round trip, this is about 4.5 miles and shouldn't take more than 2 hours to complete. East Plum Creek Trail is a 10.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Castle Rock, Colorado that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, trail running, birding, and road biking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. This 8-foot-wide, multiuse, paved trail extends between Castle Rock Middle School on the north and South Perry Street on the south. Part of the Colorado Front Range Trail, this trail functions as both a recreational and a commuter trail, providing access between The Meadows and Downtown Castle Rock as well as Founders Village and Castlewood Ranch. Plans exist to extend the trail even further south in the future. Users can get a close-up look at the unique creek side habitat along East Plum Creek and lower Sellars Gulch, which are great locations for bird-watching. Interpretive stations along the trail provide great opportunities to learn about common and rare birds found in the area, as well as historical facts and other environmental features. • What to bring Layer up. Temps will be in the 30s. Bring water. While this is a paved trail, in case there are spotty areas of snow & slush make sure to dress appropriately. • Important to know There are 13 spots at this parking lot. If for some reason there are not enough open spots, we can arrange to park a few blocks away at the hospital (parking is free) and can drive people to the trailhead.
