Kate Lawrence and Keith Akers have been invited to give a presentation on basic vegetarian issues at the Humanists of Colorado monthly meeting. They'll show a short video, discuss how to veganize familiar dishes, offer free copies of A Vegetarian Sourcebook and other literature, and lead a discussion. The public is welcome to attend at no charge. (Note: Denver Vegans is a non-sectarian group, and we welcome those of all religions or no religion who want to learn more about veganism.) If you have friends or relatives who would be interested in the basic whys and hows of going veg, let them know about this or, better yet, attend and bring them with you!
Optional outreach opportunity: a potluck will precede the meeting at 6:00 pm. Due to our topic, the Humanists have asked their people to bring only vegetarian dishes--this is a first for them. We'll be offering samples of delicious new Tofurky pot pies and quiches. Program at 7:00.
The Humanists are becoming more aware of veg issues. An article "On Eating Animals" appeared in The Humanist magazine (http://thehumanist.com/magazine/july-august-2013/features/on-eating-animals (http://thehumanist.com/magazine/july-august-2013/features/on-eating-animals)) and the local group has held a discussion of a book on factory farming.
