EASY SNOWSHOE

Note:  We will meet at the Ward Rd @ The  RTD in Arvada @ 9:00 am.

Kevin is willing to transport up to four additional people from the Panera Bread restaurant in Superior, CO. The Panera is located just off McCaslin Blvd very near highway 36. The exact address for Superior Panera is 302 Center Drive, Superior, CO if you want to Mapquest or GoogleMap it.
Kevin's group will hit the road at 9:30 am and drive directly to the trailhead. If you are interested in riding up w/ Kevin, please leave a message w/ this Meetup group so we'll know how many people are riding in that particular vehicle.
Some other businesses near Panera, to help you find it, include Wendy's, Whole Foods Market, and Sports Authority. There is plenty of parking available, and Kevin will be at Panera at around 9:00 if anyone wants to meet for coffee before the trip

Use common sense in your choice of water proof footwear and attire, what layers will really keep you warm in windy and wet conditions.

  • No cotton, you sweat, it freezes therefore you freeze.
  • Winter coat and ski or snowboard pants (snow pants can be purchased used at ARC) Keep a look out.  I ware insulated underwear under all of my cloths.
  • BRING EXTRA SOCKS IN YOUR PACK ALONG WITH A SNACK. WATER!!

These are fun outings but not if you are freezing. Be prepared and you will be fine

IDirections: From Boulder, follow Canyon Blvd. up Boulder Canyon to the town of Nederland. Once there, turn right onto Colorado Highway 72, (Peak-to-Peak Highway), and follow it for approximately 15 miles to the town of Ward. Just beyond Ward you’ll see the big sign for the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. Turn left onto Forest Road 102 and follow it for about 2.5 miles to where the road is closed during the winter and blocked by a gate. Parking is adequate on weekdays but since we'll be there on a weekend, plan on arriving early so you’ll get a parking spot near the trails. Alternate Route - If you don't want to drive through Boulder you can also reach Brainard Lake Recreation Area through Coal Creek Canyon (Highway 72) off Highway 93. There's a small parking lot on the corner of 72 and 93 where people can meet and leave cars. Drive 72 to the intersection of 119 and turn right. Follow into Nederland, take the round about to the Peak to Peak Highway 72 to the Brainard Lake Recreation Area.

WE WILL MEET AT TRAIL HEAD AT 10:30 AM.

Although the group wasn't able to all "meetup" for the trip, it still turned out wonderfully. I had a great time and I appreciate Paulette's efforts to set this up. I'm not a real stickler for everyone staying together anyway.

It was great to get out to snowshoe the first time in the season and meet new people.

Sorry we missed you Paulette -- don't know how that happened. But I had fun with our little sub group, especially the deep powder. Beautiful, but windy! Thanks for organizing this!

I hope you're feeling better soon Stacy. Good luck with the heat issue. It's probably something minor. Hopefully we can get together on another outing. Think about the Glenwood Springs: Train to Trails trip in May.

Kevin, I'm going to have to skip today after all. Woke up with a nasty cold AND apparently the heat went out and it's 50 degrees in the house and have to deal with that now. Thanks and enjoy!

Sounds good, Kevin. I'll be at Panera at 9:30 a.m.

Hi Stacy. I just sent you an email; feel free to join us in my car. As long as your dog is okay w/ a fairly full car, then he/she's welcome along. Between people & snowshoe gear, the car will be a little full, but not too bad. If you join us, either come on into Panera or look for the white Ford Escape in the parking lot around 9:30.

This is my first time with this group - looking forward to it. I'll meet at either the Panera Bread or the Target. I have my dog. Kevin, do you allow dogs in your vehicle? If not, then I'll drive myself and could take people. Anyone else meeting at the Target? Just trying to figure out the best place to meet so I don't end up in a car myself (driving or riding).

For those wishing to carpool from the Louisville/Superior/Boulder area, I'd be glad to drive. If you decide to go that route, my cell phone # is[masked] if you need to contact me on the day of the tour.

Actually, I was hoping to just get a carload of people in Superior, then head straight to the trailhead and meet you guys there. And instead of the Superior Target, I'm thinking we'll meet at Superior Panera (across Marshall Rd. from Target) so folks can grab a coffee on the way out.
If you can add it to the group message, that would be great. I can take as many as four people w/ snowshoes & daypacks.

Kevin, what I hear you say is. You will meet a group in Superior and then all of us will meet in Boulder at Target. There are several people from Louisville and Lafayette. That sounds like a good idea.
Sure put it out there or I can add it to our message.
    Thanks
