A moderately strenuous conditioning hike above treeline for those interested in the Grays/Torreys Peak hike one week later (or anyone else). The 3.5 mile round trip hike will start at Loveland Pass (11,990') and end at Mt. Sniktau (13,234') - a bit over 1200' in elevation gain. Part of the hike will follow the Continental Divide. This area has lovely views of Grays and Torreys Peaks and the surrounding Rocky Mountains. Mt. Cupid, which was hiked last year, is also nearby.
More information here:
Meet at the park n Ride at I-70 and Ward Rd. at 7 AM. Those living to the west can be picked up (or drive) as they wish. The road trip and hike will take several hours, so the return could be any time in the afternoon.
Getting there: Drive west on Interstate 70. As you approach the Eisenhower Tunnel, take the exit for Loveland Pass. The exit channels you under the highway. Go right and take Highway 6 past the Loveland Ski Area and follow the road to the top of Loveland Pass and park. The road to Loveland Pass is paved, so any passenger car can make it up to the start.
Warning: This is a moderately strenuous hike above treeline. Please arrive prepared, with appropriate footwear (boots) and layered clothing as it can get cold and windy at the top. Bring adequate water and food as well, and make sure you are in condition to do this hike. It will be slow but steady, but you still need to be prepared.
