>>> Please note the new schedule change. Huyen Tue had a conflict come up, so we are rescheduling this meetup to Wednesday, July 29th. So that we know how much food to order, please update your RSVP to let us know if you are, or aren't attending. Thanks! <<<

Android Camera 2 API , with Huyen Tue Dao

Part of Android Lollipop's many updates, Camera 2 is a major re-working of Android's Camera API designed to work with an updated Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) to provide a unified and consistent system of image/video capture and increased access to and control of camera features and metadata. Camera 2 provides many new features including burst mode, multiple output surfaces, and long-awaited RAW support. Along with new toys, there are new challenges and considerations for developer. The re-working of the API also has put much more emphasis on asynchronous and background camera access and operation. Also dealing with varying levels of device support for camera features has a new layer of complexity. During this Meetup, we will run through the basics of getting Camera 2 up and running, explore some of the new features, and discuss the challenges and issues.

About Huyen Tue Dao

Huyen Tue Dao is an independent contractor specializing in native Android and iOS development. She has been developing in Android for 5 years and will not comment on which platform is her favorite, though she does personally use an Android device. Huyen also blogs (a little too infrequently) and loves speaking at Android conferences and meeting other Android devs.

About the Droids

Each 3rd Wednesday of the month, we meet at IBM in the DTC or at POSSIBLE Mobile downtown (quarterly). From 5:30-6pm we will socialize and enjoy food and drinks. At 6pm we will typically have a speaker giving a presentation about an interesting and informative Android development topic. If you are a new or experienced Android developer, or just someone that is curious about Android development, we hope you will join us and become a regular participant!
