ExoPlayer: Beyond Basic Playback

ExoPlayer is the de facto standard for Android media playback these days. It provides some great out-of-the-box support for basic playback situations, which requires surprisingly little setup. However, it also provides hooks for customization and unique features. This talk will explore how to leverage ExoPlayer to manage media downloads, support dynamic playlists and ads, or playback DRM-content. Also, it will touch on some of the more wonky customizations that ExoPlayer exposes like adaptive bitrate overrides, variable playback speed, repeat modes, and spherical playback.

About the Speaker

Mike Patterson is an Android Engineer at Comcast and co-organizer of this meetup. His favorite aspects of Android at the moment are Kotlin and ExoPlayer. He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Economics from the Colorado School of Mines.

About the Droids

Each 3rd Tuesday of the month, we meet in Downtown Denver. From 5:30-6pm we will socialize and enjoy food and drinks. At 6pm we will either have a presentation about a new/interesting Android topic, or we'll work on a group project. If you are a new or experienced Android developer, or just someone that is curious about Android development, we hope you will join us and become a regular participant!
