BIG EVENT: Sunset Photography Workshop with the one and only JOHN FIELDER!!

This event will be organized by Ashley Millman, the Education & Communications Coordinator for Bluff Lake Nature Center. Space is limited and is being booked by multiple sources outside of our page, so be sure to sign up ASAP!

John Fielder is offering a "Sunset Photography" workshop at Bluff Lake Nature Center on   Saturday, May 11 from 2:00 pm until past sunset.  We only have 9 spots left!!

There are only 16 spaces in this class, so the small class size will allow for a very personal experience with John Fielder himself, making this class a unique opportunity to work closely with an expert in the field.

Registration is a $250 cost with half of proceeds to benefit Bluff Lake Nature Center

This is your opportunity to learn landscape photography directly from John Fielder. Find out how John creates his award-winning images and gain a deeper understanding of the visual aspects of nature. In a comprehensive 2-hour indoor slide show lecture learn how to improve your compositions and get an insider’s look at professional techniques, including which bells and buttons you only really need to use on your camera. At the end of the lecture, John will discuss the most important tools used in postprocessing programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop.

Then join John on a hike and photo shoot from 4:30 until sunset along the Sand Creek Regional Greenway and around Bluff Lake. The cottonwoods will be greening up providing wonderful subject matter for sunset photography! We will finish the evening around 8pm. Any kind of camera will work for this shop, from point & shoot to SLR. A tripod for late light images would be useful, too. Appropriate for all levels of photographers, beginner to advanced, and a great way to improve your travel photography.

John Fielder has worked tirelessly to promote the protection of Colorado’s ranches, openspaces, and wildlands during his 30-year career as a nature photographer. His photographyhas influenced people and legislation, earning him recognition including the Sierra Club’sAnsel Adams Award in 1993 and, in 2011, the Aldo Leopold Foundation’s first AchievementAward given to an individual. Over 40 books have been published depicting his Colorado photography. He lives in Summit County, Colorado, and operates a fine art gallery, John Fielder’s Colorado, in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. He teaches photography workshops to adults and children. Information about John and his work can be found at

Registration is on a first-come first-served basis.  Limit two tickets per person.  Tickets are $250 each and are payable by check to Bluff Lake Nature Center within a week of registering (please mail checks to: Bluff Lake Nature Center, 4755 Paris St., Suite 190, Denver, 80239).  Registration payments are nonrefundable; however, extreme weather may result in rescheduling, at the discretion of John Fielder and Bluff Lake Nature Center.

Some day, perhaps. Maybe when I am back in school - and have the $$. A worthy cause, and I am sure it will be great - for those who can attend.

Hey everyone! I know this workshop is a bit pricey, but just remember part of the fee goes to Bluff Lake Nature Center, a local non-profit that supports environmental education and preserving a wildlife refuge. Plus it would make a great gift for Mother's Day weekend!! Thanks!
