What we're about

This group is for anyone that would like to learn and practice design thinking.

Design thinking is a process for creative problem solving. Design thinking has a human-centered core. It encourages organizations to focus on the people they're creating for, which leads to better products, services, and internal processes.

The classic flow of Design Thinking is to:
Empathise (search for rich stories and find some love)

Define (user need and insights – their POV)
Ideate (ideas, ideas, ideas)
Prototype (build to learn)
Test (show, don’t tell)
Start all over and iterate the flow as much as possible

Dig Deeper Session 1 - Discovery

Cisco Systems - Building 11

Our guest speaker from Silicon Valley, Valeria Kanziuba who is currently part of Cisco Design Thinking will be sharing her experience as a professional facilitator. Valeria has managed and been part of the creation of the program. She has facilitated more than 50 design thinking workshops with cross-functional teams in a global market. I am so excited to have Valeria visiting our meetup! Recommended*: Have an overall knowledge of what Design Thinking is and are familiar with the methods used to emphasize to your users, identify their pain points, define a design challenge, ideation strategies to create a new solution and validate again! *(not required) We now are ready to dig deeper into these methods. Over the next few meetups we will spend more time on each method and go over different ways we can apply it in multiple stages of Design Thinking (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test). We'll spend some time for each participant to engage and collaborate in the specific method we will be working on. List of methods we will be practicing in the Discovery Phase - Interviewing - Persona Creation - Empathy Map - Journey Mapping - A Day in the Life - Stakeholder Mapping After these sessions the goal is to gather a deeper knowledge on multiple design thinking methods, know where to find resources, templates and be ready to use them in real life.

Dig Deeper Session 2 - Ideate

Needs a location

After you've taken the Design Thinking Intro and Learning by Doing Series 1 and 2 you have an overall knowledge of what Design Thinking is and are familiar with the methods used to emphasize to your users, identify their pain points, define a design challenge, ideation strategies to create a new solution and validate again! We now are ready to dig deeper into these methods. Over the next few meetups we will spend more time on each method and go over different ways we can apply it in multiple stages of Design Thinking (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test). We'll spend some time for each participant to engage and collaborate in the specific method we will be working on. List of methods we will be practicing in the Ideate Phase: - Crazy 4's - Concept Poster - Brainstorming - Role Play - How Might We After these sessions the goal is to gather a deeper knowledge on multiple design thinking methods, know where to find resources, templates and be ready to use them in real life.

UX and Game Design: Players and Prototyping

Needs a location

Facilitator: Eugene Shenderov Users are the focus of both UX and Game Design. This session will focus on building a prototype for a specific user, with a premade discovery and define phase I will provide for a specific user group (4th grade students in an after school math program). Feel free to create your own discovery and define phases before the session. After a quick introduction to game mechanics, we will make a paper prototype of an educational math game and talk about our reasons for our design decisions. My focus is on tabletop games, but the design could be a paper prototype of a mobile/tablet game if you are more comfortable with that. If there is interest, we could test our prototypes on our own type and have a session to iterate on them a month from the first session.

Dig Deeper Session 3 - Experiment
