Hello DT:DCers! Our fourth annual DT:DC Fall Summit is next Friday and we are excited to spend the day with you. Here is an update on our plans. As you know, we have been thinking a lot about experimentation lately especially the barriers to experimentation in large organizations. We will kick off the afternoon with an inspiring panel discussion on the motivators, constraints, compliance issues and models of innovation for internal vs. external experimentation. We will will hear from seasoned veterans in the field including Ryan Troll, Founder & Chief Experimentation Officer, Theory Design and Joe Titlebaum, a Co-Founder of XM Radio, who will share their hypothesis that external experimentation can accelerate change faster than internal experimentation. We will also hear from Mike Amante, Customer Experience Lead at the GSA Centers of Excellence and Simchah Suveyke Bogin from the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies at the GSA Centers of Excellence who will make the case for internal experimentation and will share the extraordinary work they are doing at HUD and USDA. Next we will jump into a hands-on activity and consider how we might prototype an idea to scale across an organization. Prototyping to scale is different work than prototyping for value and requires deep thinking about execution rather than the core value proposition of the idea. What do we need to be prepared to prototype to scale? We will practice together in a great workshop led by Alan Holden, Innovation Specialist Leader at Deloitte Consulting. Then we will hear from Jason Robertson, Senior Director of Innovation Operations at Marriott. Jason believes that nearly everything we do in business is an experiment and by embracing outcome-based thinking; even within a process, we have a better chance of success. He will share his tips for going low-fidelity and living in beta to get real-world results quickly and efficiently. Finally, we will hear from Hilda DeMarino, Digital Reality Engagement Manager at Deloitte Digital. Hilda will bring it all home for us with a presentation about bringing digital reality to life. As always, we will have some fun surprises as well. We are looking forward to a day of provocative conversation to discuss all things experimentation. It's been a busy summer for the DT:DC Leadership Team organizing the 7th Summer of Design and the Fall Summit. So join us as we jump back into regular programming and kickoff the Fall season with an Introduction to Design Thinking. This is an evening designed especially for our newest members who are new to design thinking. This workshop will give you an introduction to human-centered design methods and will be a hands-on experiential experience. Plan to arrive early. The activities build on each other and if you miss the start, you will miss the opportunity to participate in the activities. Space is limited! What you'll learn: * What it means to do user-centered design * How to start with empathy instead of solutions * How to create a point of view for your design * How to ideate and brainstorm like a mad person * How to prototype like a wizard (No drawing or building skills required!) * How to test your prototype This agenda is jam-packed and we can't wait to run you through the activities! Are you ready to get out of your comfort zone, innovate and have fun? Come with an open mind and lots of energy. Agenda 6:30 - Networking 6:45 - Introduction to Design Thinking 7:00 - Design Thinking 101 Crash Course 8:30 - Debrief 8:45 - End PS: DT:DC events sell-out quickly and MeetUp does not offer waitlist functionality.
