  • Designing for Personal Change

    Delta Dental of Washington State

Design Thinkers and Innovators, Welcome to 2020! We are excited to announce the return of the Design Thinking Seattle meetup- after a hiatus in 2019 we have some exciting plans for 2020 and can't wait to see some familiar faces as well as some new faces in the coming year. As has become our tradition, we will be starting the new year with a Meetup focused on "Designing for Personal Change". We believe that before we can lead organizational change or introduce new ways of working to others, it is important to gain empathy for the challenges of trying to lead change for ourselves. For this Meetup, we will draw from the toolkits of Adaptive Leadership and Design Thinking, and introduce tools that will help you: * Gain empathy for your own “immunity to change” and understand how competing commitments may be holding you back. * Develop experiments and prototypes to test and challenge the assumptions that may be holding you back from making the changes you desire Come prepared for a hands-on, interactive and reflective workshop, as well as the chance to connect with fellow innovators and design thinkers. THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS The generous support from our sponsors helps keep this Meetup free to the community and supports spreading design thinking across all Seattle industries and communities. * Delta Dental of Washington * Catalyz LLC THANKS TO OUR SUPPORTING MEMBERS! * If you find this meetup valuable, please consider supporting with a suggested donation of $10. • Design Thinking Happy Hour!

    Fremont Brewing Co.

Our 2018 workshop series may be over, but we've heard from you loud and clear that you still want opportunities to keep connecting with the Seattle design thinking community. We are excited to host a Design Thinking happy hour- no workshops, no structured activities, just good people and a chance to connect (or reconnect) with others who are passionate about bringing human-centered design to their industries/communities. We will have a table at Fremont Brewing Co on Tuesday 10/23 from 4PM-6:30PM- swing by, say hi, and bring your design thinking questions and success (or failure) stories to share! For those who have been wanting to attend but couldn't make our 4th Thursday events, we've intentionally scheduled this on a different day in the hopes you might be able to join us. In true design thinking spirit, this is a bit of a prototype- if lots of people attend and give a thumbs up, we'll try to host more of these. If you have other ideas of events you'd like to see, leave a message and inspire us! (or better yet, let us know if you'd like to help host/plan an event). Special thanks to Meetup members Celine and Amy for planning this event- make sure to say thanks if you see them there!

Details For our August meetup we'll conclude our four part series that we began in May in which we break the design thinking approach down into four phases: Immerse, Frame, Imagine, and Prototype. There is no need to have attended the previous months workshops- each workshop is designed to stand alone even if you were not able to attend prior or subsequent events. In each month of the series we will explore one of the four phases in depth, as well as how to apply the associated methods and mindsets to a range of different industries and situations. For August we'll focus on the Prototype phase with an emphasis on activities and tools that help us quickly bring ideas to life in order to share them and get feedback from colleagues and customers. We'll introduce tools and methods to prototype digital products, physical experiences and new service concepts, and discuss how different industries can apply rapid prototyping techniques. As always, come prepared to engage in a highly experiential workshop, meet a diverse collection of fellow innovators, and learn tools you can use to help make Seattle a human-centered and innovative city!
