  • Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Royal Oak with Guest Leader Alex Wedmedyk!

Celebrate the return of the spring and the coming of another outdoor drumming season! At 3PM Alex Wedmedyk will teach a personalized class to share some tips for both new and more experienced drummers and to warm us up for the drum circle jam to follow, which will start around 4:30. You don't need to attend the class to attend the jam. Suggested donation to Alex for class + jam is $20; $5 for just the jam. -- Offer whatever you can, regardless. Alex is the owner of Earth Rhythm Drums (https://www.facebook.com/Earth-Rhythm-178474952217867/), based in Brunswick, OH. They are creators of fine Djembe and other African style drums, and import authentic African drums. Alex is a musician and facilitator, blending with the power of rhythm. He is a Master Drum maker, Drummer, Workshop Facilitator, Performer and Craftsman. In his play-shops, he integrates the powerful methods of shamanism, with ecstatic trance rhythms as well as rhythms for fun-fulfillment. He is also a member of the percussion group "Wake Up." He feels that seeing the group play is feeling the transformative effect of rhythm. “Rhythm creates life, life creates the flow. Our inner and outer being manifest on this life stream as we move forward to parts unknown.” Bring something to sit on, and if you have them, percussion instruments to share. If you don't have a drum, there will be extra drums or other percussion items on hand. Feel free to bring snacks to share, as well. :-) Alex ADDITIONAL NOTE: If you sign up, and something changes in your schedule, please change your RSVP. We will start counting no-shows, and you will be taken off the mailing list after two (2) no shows.

    Sunset Pointe on Belle Isle

Let's meet at Sunset Point, on the south side of the island (facing the Ambassador Bridge). Past the fountain. On the far side of the restroom building. For those rushing over from work, feel free to bring your dinner -- and everyone is welcome to bring a snack to share. Feel free to bring extra percussion instruments to share, if you have them.
