Ladies of the Lights: Michigan's Women Lighthouse Keepers

Join us at Andrew's on the Corner on Detroit's historic riverfront for a talk about the ladies who kept the lights on along Michigan's waterways.

Patricia Majher, editor of Michigan History magazine, will discuss the long, rich history of Michigan’s female lighthouse keepers, including two who served on the Detroit River. Patricia formerly served as assistant director/curator of the Michigan Women's Museum and Hall of Fame in Lansing. While at the women’s museum, she developed a popular exhibit on women lighthouse keepers and later expanded that material into a book called "Ladies of the Lights: Michigan Women in the U.S. Lighthouse Service."

Here is a link to Pte Aux Barques Lighthouse located in the thumb area. My husband and I camped there a couple years ago and is a very beautiful place to camp. Wish i could show you my pictures from there.

Some notes for tonight: Andrew's on the Corner is right next to Chene Park, which has been hosting a PACKED concert series this week. Tonight there's a jazz concert which we expect to be less insane than the B-52s (sorry, jazz), but you might still want to plan to get there a little early.

The bar is on the corner of Atwater and Joseph Campau. They do have a lot - enter on Atwater. There may be some traffic control in the area - if you have any problems just say you're headed to Andrew's on the Corner for the history event and you should be good to go.

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight!
