Co-Founder Speed Dating & Pitching #14

The ORIGINAL and still the BEST co-founder speed dating & pitching event EVER!!!!!

If you are looking for co-founders or connections in general; if you want to pitch your idea/product/service/skills/etc. or if you just want to come and watch an entertaining, rapid fire event, then this is THE one to attend.

FORMAT:
 (Timings approximate)

7.00pm - Welcome from the organisers

7.05pm
- A word from our sponsors (Elance, Microsoft, Waterfront Solicitors, Codementor)

7.15pm
- Guest Speaker: John V Willshire, founder of Smithery, will be talking to us about: "Flow Engines - Hacking the Way You Work"

We always worry that we've not got enough time to do the things we want to get done, as if we can only work at a fixed, constant rate. Through experimenting with Artefact Cards and other working methods over the last three years, John has developed a simple and powerful way of setting out quick, clear ways of working in order for you to make the most of the time you have.

John V Willshire founded Smithery in 2011, a product and marketing innovation studio, that helps companies "Make Things People Want, rather than Make People Want Things". Amongst others, Smithery’s clients include Konica Minolta, Experian, Google, Carlsberg, and the Saïd Business School. As part of the in-house product experiments, John also created Artefact Cards, a system for helping people and teams play with ideas, making up card games to find better ideas whilst having more fun. They’ve been covered by the Financial Times and Maria Popova’s Brainpickings, and they’re available from the Artefact Cards shop.

7.45pm
Workshop"One Year Of Wonder".

i) Everyone will get a couple of cards and a Sharpie, handed to you on the way in at reception.
ii) You will write down on one side of the card what you want from the event (could be very general e.g. "to learn more about who's doing what here", or very specific e.g. "I need a developer to help me build the back-end of an e-commerce site for my business")
iii) On the other side you will draw who that will help you become (Imagine yourself in a year's time - who do you want to be as a result of tonight? Draw that version of yourself.)
iv) You can the use your cards to help introduce yourselves in the networking part of the evening.
v) The goal is to find the sidekick who'll get you to be who you want to be in one year's time.

8.00pm
STRICTLY '30 second' speed pitching*

*Suggested breakdown for 30 second pitches (Remember: practice makes perfect!):
10s - Who you are.
10s - What you do/are working on.
10s - Who/what you are looking for.

Also, we highly recommend you have a practiced and memorable pitch ready to deliver on the the night as we have same fantastic prizes to give away to the best pitches including Nokia phones, Artefact cards, Elance vouchers and more.

8.30pm
- 'Dating' and networking/socialising

    Hi guys,

I have founded an innovative recruitment service and am in need of a London-based PHP developer to make the site fully functional. Job pays £16/ hour; 8 hours/ week; work remotely.

Most of the work has been done. There a few problems to solve before the site can go live.

If you are interested, please email "[masked]". Meetings will be set up in Central London this week and next week. I look to hearing from you.

    Best,
    Harry

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a full stack developer with mobile experience to join WeSpree as a co-founder. WeSpree is a mobile-first platform that rewards users when they share product recommendations with friends (I was pitch #12 at event #14 - check out the video). I have >10 years of domain experience, have thoroughly tested the concept in user research groups (I can show you the tapes) with my MVP (also happy to share this). It's a huge addressable market with few direct competitors. I have enough funding to pay a moderate salary + equity (and a junior dev if needed) and have secured relationships with all relevant third parties (affiliate networks, senior clients etc). Now it needs someone energetic and collaborative to come in and make the technical elements their own and share the ride of building an exciting and disruptive new startup! If you'd like to hear more you can reach me at [masked]

    Cheers,
    Steve

    So we have re-named the title of our blog to;

FB traffic driving blogs and tweets on this topic go out next week.

We were really happy to attend the second edition of the Microsoft Inside Accelerator Meet up yesterday 23rd October 2014 as well as September's first edition. Well done again to Rob Fenton and his spectacular team, Adam, Brian Drinic, David Smith and Joaquim C. for organising these great events. It was a great opportunity to ask questions and really dig into how these accelerator programmes work. We were going to write a review of the night, but then we thought there are so many wider issues with business funding in general so instead we have put together some review notes not just on the Microsoft Ventures event but also key market trends; entrepreneurs relocating in order to take advantage of the best opportunities, the rising rents in San Francisco, crowdfunding pros and cons and Kickstarter's new rules for creators of technology projects. We also look at some newer initiatives such as Bloomberg Beta.

Great to see so many hustlers at the event (I have a special affection for those, naturally). I wonder if I may put a call-out here for any digital marketing foundery types that may like to collaborate on a venture (or two) that I am co-architecting.

As a brief snapshot on me, I represent a family office these days investing in serial technology entrepreneurs in London, in addition to having a having a wider network of investors that I help connect relevant, filtered deals to.

Before this, I cofounded BuzzMove and InspiredChallenge in the last year as a Founding Architect and shaped the launch of both (team-built, tech-solved, validation-hustled, investment-raised, etc.). Both have raised over $1.5M to date. I'd like to do the same thing again as I want to keep my nose on the grindstone and keep my hand in. It can't all be spent on the cold side of investing. ;)

So, any digital marketers out there, please do drop me a line. It'll be great to hear from you.

    Thanks, all.

    Hi all,
Our fab blogger, Ted (not the bear, although I do believe he is quite furry!), has somehow managed to write up the event AND catch the details of all the pitches. Please check it out here -> http://hipsters-hackers-hustlers.com/co-founder-speed-dating-pitching-14-another-successful-event-now-need-help/ - and let us know if there are any mistakes that need correcting and/or omissions that need adding.

    Hello Technical Co-founders,

I want to team up with you to launch a simple social utility mobile app that I firmly believe has the necessary hook needed to go viral. I have completed the wireframes and am looking for the strong technical skills and experience of a passionate i0S and Android mobile developer to build a robust and successful product.

I have a few other ideas but this app's simplicity is a great starting point on which to hopefully build a strong founders' relationship going forward; base on mutual trust, commitment to the journey and customer/business-focussed passion for the product.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

    Kind regards, Jan

Very interesting Vincenzo, we built a music playlist service where we stored peoples requests for music they wanted played at their funeral (http://www.soundtrack...) which inadvertently created 'funeral radio'! Anyway we did a lot of research into expanding this into a proposition (which we didn't go ahead with) for a full afterlife data service. I will take a look and share with you anything useful.

I can imagine the re-recording of your video to get quite annoying if you're a regular attendee of different events. Perhaps a user could choose to save a number of these short videos and choose one relevant to the event that they plan to attend. I'd hate to have to repeat the same introduction once or twice a week.

    Hi All

Just like you all I too am looking for a talented Mobile Application Developer who will be able to develop and deploy my mobile app idea and website project. It's a simple app that utilises the calendar functions of mobile and integrates two external API's, I have wireframes done and it'd probably take someone who knows what they are doing a couple of evenings to get off the ground.

I have a lot of experience in design and marketing and will provide pixel perfect visuals in which to turn into a working app.

My idea has a unique distribution model and could (will) turn into a viable business if I can just find the right person?

    Hey guys,

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this Meetup, but I am currently looking for a developer to join my co-founding team and bring my product to life.

The product itself is a discovery tool to help users find what London has to offer aside from the usual monotonous activities (cinema, bowling, etc), through simple, easy and intuitive design. There is a lot more to the product which I can let anyone know about in more detail if they're interested. Thanks!

Howdy! I'm Abby, founder of Dapptive - http://www.dapptive.com . We are a startup from Stockholm that is focused on developing our own ideas. We pick the projects that really excites us. We've currently got a really exciting social projects coming up and we're looking for an iOS Developer and Growth hacker to join our team in London. We're looking to launch our first project in Stockholm, London and Los Angeles really soon. The project is focused around social discovery, connecting and introducing likeminded people. If you're skilled within iOS dev or Growth Hacking then I'd love to get introduced, demo our prototype app, see what you think and perhaps join our team. I'll be at the event tonight. Best!
