Dear Dharma Drink Friends,
We’re about to embark on another book (B-sutra) adventure. We’ve read many fascinating and eye opening texts from the Surangama & Diamond sutras to Pali Canon Anthologies (by Bhikkhu Bodhi).
This time, with many eagerly awaiting regulars, we’ll read and discuss the Lotus Sutra, a very important Mahayana sutra. Per Wiki: "The Lotus Sūtra .. is one of the most popular and influential Mahayana sutras..."
There are many translations of the Lotus Sutra. We will be using the BDK per link here. http://www.bdk.or.jp/document/dgtl-dl/dBET_T0262_LotusSutra_2007.pdf
We will also reading this concurrently with Thich Nhat Hanh's commentaries, "Opening the Heart of the Cosmos: Insights on the Lotus Sutra". Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Opening-Heart-Cosmos-Insights-Lotus/dp/1888375337
If you have another translated version, you are also welcome to join if you have done the reading. However, when we reference texts, translations or pages, we will be focused on the BDK version.
(Ch-20) Bodhisattvas Sadaparibhuta
(Ch-21) The Transcendent Powers of the Tathagata
(Ch-23) Ancient Accounts of the Bodhisattva Bhaisajyaraya
(Ch-24) Bodhisattvas Gadgadasvara
There are a lot of reading here and we will likely not finish all the chapters. If we don't finish, we will start right where we left off next time.
NOTE that we are here to read, exchange and help each other. We’re not here to expound. If you need deeper learning, please go visit a Buddhist teaching center.
