What we're about

An education, support, and walking group for those with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes interested in using diet and walking to improve their blood glucose levels, meeting weekly in Bellingham, Washington.

The diet I use is based on the low carbohydrate diet described in the book, Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution, 4th edition, also on the Diet Doctor website https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/60-seconds and Diabetes.co.uk forum http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/low-carb-diet-forum.18/ However, there's no one diet that works for everyone. Join us and find the diet that works for you!

Eat Rich Live Long: Use the Power of Low-Carb and Keto For Weight Loss and Great Health (2018) by Ivor Cummins ( http://www.thefatemperor.com/ ) and Jeffry Gerber, M.D. ( https://denversdietdoctor.com/ ) ---------- CAN'T MAKE IT TO A WALK OR MEETING? DT2R encourages type 2's to read The Blood Code: Unlock the Secrets of Your Metabolism (2014) by Richard Maurer, ND. Read his blog at http://www.thebloodcode.com/news-blog/ (http://www.thebloodcode.com/news-blog/.) Dr. Maurer's book and a glucose monitoring kit can be checked out from DT2R's library. Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution, 4th Edition (2011), is an excellent reference for type 2's and type 1's. This is the man who launched my journey to restored health and that of so many others over almost four decades. Here's a recent tribute to him for his 83rd birthday from members of the Facebook group TypeOneGrit at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcYyVqD3mCc Mark Hyman, M.D. offers a functional medicine approach to diabetes treatment through his books and website. Sign up for his free weekly "House Call" podcast at http://drhyman.com/ (http://drhyman.com/ Looking for free online information that you can access right now? Learn about low carb here... https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb then consider signing up at https://www.dietdoctor.com/member for a free trial membership for one month - (cost is then $9 per month; can be cancelled online at any time). Their excellent videos, documentaries, recipes, and articles cover a wide range of topics related to low carb, diabetes, and weight loss. Founded in 2011, it now numbers 35,000+ members and 150,000 visits a day. New videos are posted regularly. DietDoctor.com and Diabetes.co.uk are my favorite websites. Not interested in low carb? For a whole foods, plant based diet, Joel Fuhrman, M.D.'s book, The End of Diabetes (2014), is reasonably good. For those interested in a "juice fasting" program, Australian entrepreneur Joe Cross has two documentaries, a book, various products, and coaching services available through his Reboot With Joe website at http://www.rebootwithjoe.com/ Canadian nephrologist Jason Fung, M.D. has written two books on fasting, The Obesity Code (2016) and The Complete Guide To Fasting (2016) and has an excellent blog at https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/ And finally, The Diabetes Summit with host Brian Mowll, D.C., an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner, is available each April. Register here at http://thediabetessummit.com/ Many of these books, documentaries, and summits are available through DT2R's library. Lisa, [masked]
