Do you know that Rockland County has its own local chapter of the DICKENS INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP? Known as "The Boffins," it generally meets on the second Saturday of each month from 10:15 to noon at the Pearl River Library.
We welcome new members, including those who have read Dickens 'forever' and those who never read him. Each year we read one of his novels, and discuss several chapters at our regular non-party meetings.
In true Dickensian fashion, food and fellowship are integral parts of our time together, so there are also several celebratory events.
What are we reading for the 2018-2019 season? It's Dickens's sixth novel, Martin Chuzzlewit, part of which takes place in America. We will also be dipping into his American Notes for General Circulation, which tells of his visit to America in 1842.
The first meeting of the season is September 8, 2018, at 10:15 at the Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Avenue.
