Virtual Museum Network Amsterdam Meetup

Sustainable Landscape Reconstruction

Virtual reconstruction of historical environments or digitised and digitally restored museum objects start to be used more and more in museums and visitor centres. But most of them are still seen as a way to generate pretty pictures, not as a way to hold and summarise historical and archaeological knowledge that can be maintained and exchanged with researchers and other museums. In this presentation, we will show our ongoing work for two archaeological sites and for two museum projects, and demonstrate how we try to make the resulting virtual reconstructions and digital restorations sustainable and exchangeable. We want to discuss the requirements that curators, educational experts and researchers have to use, re-use and exchange such virtual reconstructions and digital restorations.
