We are going slightly off piste this month, heading into the realm of Reactive programming and Javascript. But don't fear, we will return to containers and devops soon.

Alex has come all the way from sunny San Francisco to give a talk at the React Amsterdam Conference so I've stolen him for the evening to give a talk about Reactive Programming in JavaScript (RxJS). Then Hugo will give us a run through of the machines he has been building using javascript. There will be live demos!

As always, there will be plenty of snacks and cold beverages and we'll cap the evening off with tasty pizzas and general socialising. If anyone has any special requests for food, please get in touch. We always accommodate vegetarians but if you need gluten free you need to let me know.

We will attempt to livestream the event too - https://youtu.be/3RWarWIOKmc (https://t.co/sjQAkrQx6A)

Alex Castillo (https://twitter.com/castillo__io) (Netflix) - NeuroJavaScript: Brainwaves in realtime

What biosensing devices can we use to capture electric signals generated by human cells? Come see a demonstration on how to interact with biosignals such as EEG (from the brain) and EMG (from muscles) via JavaScript. Examples include wearable gesture control devices and simulated brainwaves. Find out how to leverage your current JavaScript skills to work in the Neurotechnology space.

Alex is a Software Engineer at Netflix and specialises in enterprise single-page applications. Alex is very passionate about the human brain and how we can use technology to understand it better. He has contributed to the open source community and focuses on Angular, React and NeuroTech. In his spare time, he likes experimenting with guitars and IoT.

Hugo Wiledal (https://twitter.com/etthugo) (Your Majesty) - Let's get Physical. NodeJS Powered Machines

NodeJS is constantly making headlines for it's simplicity when used to create microservices - but thanks to its wide community, there are ways of using it to interact with the physical world around it. Hugo will share his experiences in building NodeJS powered machines.

Hugo is a Senior Creative Developer at Your Majesty Co. always on the lookout for new tech to use and abuse. He spends his spare time working on too many side-projects at once, playing music, and exploring fine beer.

The provisional structure is as follows:

- 6:30 - Doors open - Grab a drink and get a seat

- 7:00 - Brief introduction

- 7:10 - Alex Castillo - NeuroJavaScript: Brainwaves in realtime

- 7:50 - Brief interlude - Chance to grab another drink and toilet break

- 8:00 - Hugo Wiledal - Let's get Physical. NodeJS Powered Machines

- 8:40 - Closing remarks then pizza and socialising

The DigitalOcean Community (https://www.digitalocean.com/community) has all the resources you need to go from development to production, and please read the Events Code of Conduct (http://do.co/newmeetup) before attending.

Thanks,
David
