***UPDATE 08 OCT 2013***

WOW!!!! I can't believe all the folks that are attended looks like we are going to have a great turnout and lots of new faces to the group. So in order for you all to find me a bit easier I will be sporting lovely gold sparking stars on my head!

The weather forecast looks wonderful for this weekend so again remember to bring something to help quench your thrist while we strong among the Maple Hill residents. I hvae gone ahead and added a cap to the attendees at this time as there are going to be so many of us that with this event being so popular I didn't want to loose us in the crowds. Remember to give yourself plenty of time to park and arrive to our meeting point.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Tiffany

The annual Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll will take place on Sunday, October 13 from 2 to 4:30 p.m with a rain date of October 20. This event is free to the public and features over 80 locals dressed in period costume portraying both the famous and infamous people buried at Maple Hill Cemetery along with noteables affiliated there. The cemetery was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places. Characters include five Alabama governors buried there, the Secretary of War who ordered the first shot at Ft. Sumter, a Gypsy Queen, and visit by Tallulah Bankhead the famous starlet born in Huntsville.

Donations welcome.

So now that you know what how about where and what time. Now just a warning this is a very popular event so patience will be key!!! Parking can get bad and you may have to walk futher than you expected so please allow for this - there will be large crowds so again patience is a must and folks will be coming in from various points for the stroll.

Also might be a smart idea to bring a bottle of water or other items for your comfort along as there may be times we have to wait at various sites to hear the story of the "grave occupant."

We will meet at the funeral home (on the corner of California St SE and Maple Hill Street SE) parking lot across from the main entrance of the cemetery 1:30 pm and proceed in thru the main gate.

Fair warning there is no set direction once we enter into the cemetery so a bit of a free-for-all but we can take a look at the maps when we arrive and start our stroll!
