Learn to Kayak or Canoe - HUMBER RIVER Adventure (Sun, Apr. 28)

VIDEO: Humber River Kayak/ Canoe Lesson - Aug. 2012

Looking for a way to enjoy the great outdoors without leaving the city? How about a guided kayaking/ canoeing tour on the Humber River, minutes away from public transit?

At this event you will be provided with a 30-minute beginners lesson before you embark on your scenic paddle of Toronto’s wildlife-packed slow-moving Humber River.

The Humber is a slow moving scenic river that meanders through forest and marsh. On this adventure we see plant and wildlife rarely seen in the city. We often see more wildlife on the Humber River then we see on our trips to Algonquin Park. We regularly see: Canada Geese, Swans, Ducks, White Egrets, Blue Heron, Night Heron, Cormorants, many types of Raptors, Beaver, Mink, Muskrat, Deer, Fox, Coyote, Raccoon, Salmon, Trout, Carp, Bass, Catfish, and many types of Turtles!

A Great Way to Learn, Socialize, and Enjoy The Great Outdoors!

Is there a way I can attend :)

    April 20, 2013

    • Walter

Aamir, we don't have any spots left for this tour, but you will have a chance to attend if someone else cancels. The next paddling tour is scheduled for May 26, I hope you can make that one. Link:

Most of us will go into single kayaks, but there are also a couple of canoes available. The canoes seat 2 people. If you you prefer a canoe instead of a kayak, please post a comment to say so when you RSVP, and provide the name of your paddling partner. Thanx

    Hi Walter,
I am thinking I'd like to go. Do we have a choice between Kayak and Canoe? Are 2 to a canoe possible. If so, is it for a reduced rate? Thank you, Zoi.

    April 15, 2013

    • Walter

Zoi, the canoes seat 2 people each, so if you'd like to go into a canoe, you must first find another member or guest who will share it with you. When you RSVP, please post a comment saying if you prefer a canoe instead of a kayak, and the name of your paddling partner. The price would be the same whether you are in a kayak or a canoe.

I would love to Kayak, I dont swim, is it safe, do you think I can do it?

    April 6, 2013

    • Walter

Hi Hayfa. Yes, it's very safe. If you watch the video above on this page, you will get a pretty good idea of the level and the pace of the activity. There will be 2 experienced and dedicated paddling guides giving us instructions, and escorting our group throughout the paddle. No need to know how to swim, we will wear life vests, and the water is so shallow that you can stand in it, and it won't even reach your waist! Chances are that you won't get wet at all, but it's always good to bring an extra pair of shoes or sandals, just in case your feet get wet or a little muddy while stepping in or out of your kayak/ canoe.
