This month, we'll be reading "Holidays on Ice" by David Sedaris, which has been updated with six more pieces, including one never before published. Along with such favorites as the diaries of a Macy's elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris's tales of tardy trick-or-treaters ("Us and Them"); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French ("Jesus Shaves"); what to do when you've been locked out in a snowstorm ("Let It Snow"); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations ("Six to Eight Black Men"); what Halloween at the medical examiner's looks like ("The Monster Mash"); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry ("Cow and Turkey").
These events are casual gatherings of gay men on the second Sunday of the month: we have fun and stimulating discussions about quality gay literature while sharing a potluck meal. Books are selected by participants several months in advance, and the only requirements for attending are to RSVP, to bring food and/or a beverage to share, and to have read a substantial part of what’s being discussed.
If you're coming, please add a "comment" on this page saying what you'll be bringing for the potluck so we're less likely to end up with only one type of food. The potluck's not a cooking competition, and store-bought food is fine!
Gather at 6:00 for potluck; discussion begins at 6:45 and ends by 8:30.
