We are creating a community of HIV+ guys who also enjoy eating out, meeting over coffee, going to movies, going to cultural events, and making new friends.
Our meet up locations have historically been largely in the Orange County area, but we are attempting to expand and welcome anyone from the Los Angeles, Long Beach, and/or Orange County regions (or anyone who might be passing through).
Our MEETUP NAME IS "THE WARRIORS".
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I am concerned about maintaining my privacy and discretion for this group. Should I join?
A: Our group settings are not visible to non-members. We request all members maintain discretion about other members’ HIV status or any other private information however we are also a community of open and compassionate individuals who would like to encourage dialogue surrounding issues of discretion and remaining closeted. We empathize with all the diverse and unique circumstances surrounding the stigma of being gay and HIV positive and want to be as supportive as possible to all members. Please be aware that everyone is functioning at varying levels (some more discreet than others) and that nobody has precedence over another in terms of how this group will manage behaviors. Quite simply, common sense, decency and respect are all that are needed.
Q: Is there a fee for joining the group?
A: There are no fees. Membership is free of charge. When we go out to eat or to movies, each member is responsible for his or her expenses.
Q: Are there limitations to group discussions/message boards?
A: We request that members refrain from making controversial statements regarding politics, law and order, religion, or x-rated discussions. We would like every member to feel welcome.
Q: I am looking to meet folks to date/have sexual encounters with/marry….Is this the group for me?
A: The primary focus of this group is social. Many but not all members join the group in order to meet potential dates as well as new friends. We hope that this group serves as a meaningful alternative to the internet and bars.
Q: I am in recovery from alcohol/substance addiction. Would I feel out of place?
A: Many members imbibe alcohol at group functions (lunches, dinners, parties). We do have members who are in recovery and/or do not drink. We encourage everybody to drink responsibly and highly discourage drinking and driving- it’s dangerous and illegal. Drug use will not be tolerated at any events. We encourage anyone to report any inappropriate behaviors related to drugs or alcohol at events sponsored by this group.
