  • Docker Birthday #7 Live Stream

    Needs a location

This month, DockerHR is taking our yearly Docker Birthday Party online and doing a 3-hour live stream, hosted by Bret, and joined by Docker Engineers, Captains, and experts on all the latest docker features. This will be a YouTube Live on the Docker channel, and we hope you'll join the live chat. Signup here for the online event and you'll get a link the day of the live stream (26th at 12pm). https://events.docker.com/events/details/docker-docker-virtual-meetups-presents-mydockerbday-live-show-1/#/ There are also 7 new tutorials on docker features on the birthday site, which I encourage you to try, and we'll be in the 757dev #containers channel if you have questions. https://www.docker.com/birthday Agenda --- Hosted By Bret Fisher, Community Leader For decades Bret has built and operated distributed systems as a sysadmin and helped over 150,000 people learn DevOps topics. • Leveraging Native Kubernetes to Secure your Ecosystem

Join us as we host Branden Wood from StackRox for a discussion on leveraging proper Kube RBAC, Network Policies, and Admission controllers for security in Kubernetes, and how StackRox makes that easier.

  • Kubernetes Ingress Walkthrough

    Issuetrak

Most adopting Kubernetes orchestration will need a way to proxy incoming HTTP/S connections. Come learn from Docker Captain Bret Fisher about the built-in Ingress feature, what it can and can't do, and see some of the options demoed for integrating 3rd party tools for routing incoming web requests, including NGINX, Traefik, and others. We'll also do a "state of the container ecosystem" Q&A before and after the demos to help you catch up with everything that happened in 2019. Thanks to Issuetrak for providing space, food, drinks, and wifi!

  • Beer.yaml - Holiday Edition!

    The Birch

Join us and our friends at Norfolk.js, Code4HR, Norfolk Go, and everyone else in 757Dev for our annual holiday Beer.js. Don't enjoy beer? The Birch also has great food and non-alcoholic options. Since this will be the "Holiday Edition" of Beer.js, we are asking you to attend in your most festive attire and compete to win a little prize for the most festive! We'll also have swag to give out to celebrate #25DaysofServerless and #AdventofCode. Because it's the giving time of the year, we will be collecting donations for local animal rescues. Due to the restaurant hours, this meet-up will be on a Wednesday evening instead of our usual Monday evening. There will be wi-fi, so feel free to bring your laptop and do some hacking while you enjoy the beverages.

  • 3 Ways to run Kubernetes locally (Kubernetes 757 - Kickoff)

Docker HR and Kubernetes 757 are joining forces. For our first ever Kubernetes-757 Meetup, Matthew Bach and Brandon Gulla will demo 3 (or more) simple ways to get a Kubernetes single node cluster up and running without the full-time investment required to deploy a production-like cluster. Attendees of this session should leave with the ability to start tinkering with Kubernetes on minimal hardware. You can RSVP here *or* on Kubernetes 757. You might have heard about the new Kubernetes 757 Meetup Group https://www.meetup.com/kubernetes-757 and rather than having separate Docker and Kubernetes meetups (it's all the same stuff really) we're combining meetups (but they'll be listed in both meetup.com groups). Come join this Kubernetes-focused meetup as we show off ways to run Kubernetes locally. Remember Beer.js is on Wednesday where the whole community gets together for a Holiday Happy Hour at The Birch in Norfolk. We'll start at 6:30 Tuesday at Issuetrak, who is also providing the food/drink. Thanks, Issuetrak!

  • Hands-on Labs: Modernizing Windows Applications (and more) with Docker!

THIS IS A FREE EVENT - PLEASE RSVP USING THIS LINK https://events.docker.com/events/details/docker-virginia-beach-presents-hands-on-labs-modernizing-windows-applications-and-more-with-docker HRNUG and Docker Hampton Roads meetups are joining forces for a night of hands-on workshops. Bring your laptop and let’s #LearnDocker. Our main focus will be a lab where you'll learn to Dockerize traditional .NET / Windows applications! We will also have a number of other labs available on a variety of Docker topics and for different skill levels, including for beginners. Moving an application to Docker doesn't mean you have to re-write your whole application. In this hands-on technical lab, you'll containerize an older, monolithic .NET application without changing any code. And you'll see the benefit of running it on Docker. Then in a few simple steps, you'll build additional services in separate containers, breaking features out of the monolith into separate containers, without rewriting the app. If you are an advanced Docker user who would like to help people work through the labs, reach out to Kevin, Drew or Bret! Food and drinks will be provided! Let everyone know you’re coming by using #LearnDocker.
