Introduction

Meet other developers and ops engineers using Docker. Docker is an open platform for developers and sysadmins to build, ship, and run distributed applications. Consisting of Docker Engine, a portable, lightweight runtime and packaging tool, and Docker Hub, a cloud service for sharing applications and automating workflows, Docker enables apps to be quickly assembled from components and eliminates the friction between development, QA, and production environments. As a result, IT can ship faster and run the same app, unchanged, on laptops, data center VMs, and any cloud.

Docker Swag

Swag (Docker tshirts & stickers) is a great incentive for only group members who actively engage at our Docker Kisumu Meetup events. This could including things like speaking, asking questions or helping plan our next meetup. We are discouraging passing them out to each attendee. You can request docker swag via this link http://bit.ly/29n7dnj

Docker Hackathon

Docker announced the latest release, Docker 1.12 and we are happy to announce the Docker 1.12 Hackathon! Participants are encouraged to hack using all the new features including: Swarm Mode, the Service Deployment API, and the built-in routing mesh.

For the hackathon, we are using a platform called DevPost, which allows you to review the rules, submit your hacks, view other hacks, participate in and start discussions, and easily find other participants to join forces with!

Submissions are due on Monday, July 25th followed by a week-long judging period. Winners will be announced on Monday, August 1st.

So form your teams and participate in a fun way to learn Docker 1.12. You might even win one of the awesome prizes!

Complete details on the event can be found here. Questions, comments? Feel free to ping us.
