Polar Plunge Details

user 40010742
San Antonio, TX
Good morning, all!
As we approach the T-1 month point for the Polar Plunge, this information came today from our event coordinator.  If you find that you are unable to attend, please update your status and let us know as soon as possible.  I'm going later today to purchase felt and ribbon for our Fez/Suspenders/Bow Ties and we'll have a party for the Plungers- probably at my house- November 30 or December 1 to make them.
Message from Coordinator Re. Fundraising and incentives:
*You may have a team of 3-10 people
Our Officially Signed-Up Team So Far-  We have room for 3 more
Lisa Orozco $30.00
Lisa Carlton $0.00
Amanda Cress $20.00
Candiss Gandy $35.00
Adelina Guzman $0.00
Tamara Holcomb $33.00
Crystal Shedrock $0.00

*Each member must raise $100 minimum
We can subsidize a good portion of our fundraising goal depending on the number of participants with monies raised at Alamo City Comic Con by our group.  That weekend, Ken kindly brought his TARDIS and we raised money by charging to take pictures inside the TARDIS as well as raffling off a lovely Fourth Doctor scarf knitted by Lisa Orozco.  (She does gorgeous work, accepts commissions and can be contacted via her Meetup profile.)

*Incentives are the same as indivual incentives.

Day of Event Checklist:
✓ Bring a print-out of your online fund raising total to registration on the morning of the event.
✓ Bring all monies raised off -line on the morning of the event. We accept check/money orders made payable to Special Olympics Texas, cash and credit cards. We can only register you for the amount of donations you bring with you to the plunge (including online donations).
✓ Bring a towel to dry off and a change of clothes for after the plunge.
✓ Bring a floatie and/or life vest if you’d like one (they will not be provided).
For Your Safety
All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver. Children under 18 must have a parent sign the waiver. Children under 12 must plunge with a parent or guardian.
Lifeguards will be on duty to enforce the rules of the pool/beach.
No unaccompanied children are permitted. Please plan to have sufficient child care if you are plunging and bringing a child.
Don't Forget Your Costume!
Get creative with your individual or team costume! Judges will be watching during the event for the best costume. The winner will be announced after the plunge. Please keep costumes family-friendly or you may be asked to leave. No wet suits allowed. You may change into your costume at the event, but since the changing area may be crowded, we encourage you to come early or already dressed.

Additional tips (from experience)
-Parking will be free and priority parking will be open.
-Registration will likely be held outside the Exit Gate (It was last year). This is where you can turn in cash donations (though I reccommend settling up online beforehand), fill out paperwork, and pick up your incentives. Registration is at 9am.
-Next is the meet and greet, and going over itenterary, etc. This will most likely be held in the large pavillion style restaurant.
-After that we'll make our way over to the wave pool for the plunge.
-IT WILL BE COLD, perhaps painfully so. Once you fight through it, you should feel like you can stay out there forever. Many of us plan to. Yes, some people will wet their ankles and turn tail, but we are made of tougher stuff. If you lose track of the team, look for us in the deep end.
-You won't really be cold after the plunge (the air will feel warm) so avoid the heaters. Still, I reccommend booking it up to the changing rooms, as they do fill up. Nice hot water in the showers too.
-Also, we'll have the run of the park afterwards, if anyone wants to put their adrenaline rush to good use.
And for those who haven't seen the new Day of the Doctor trailer yet…  WARNING: SPOILERS!  Lovely, lovely spoilers ahead….
