Hello and Welcome! I started this group in 2011 to provide opportunities for dogs and their owners to enjoy some outdoorsy activities and socializing in the greater Sacramento/Norcal area. I lead off leash hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, and paddling events, but any events or event suggestions are welcome.
** All dogs (any breed or mix!) are welcome on or off leash, as long as they are socialized and under control. All people are welcome (with or without dogs), as long as they are dog lovers! ***
You are also VERY welcome to sign up as an event organizer yourself! Just send me an email (go to my profile - Jodi Cassell - and click to send email) telling me to set you up as an organizer, then you will have access to the calendar to set up trips - the system is very easy to use). Meetups are grassroots kindof things, and we all have day jobs, so the more we all participate the better the group will be! All types of events are welcome, as long as they are dog-friendly.
THERE IS NO NEED TO RSVP NO FOR ACTIVITIES YOU WON'T BE ATTENDING - but we hope you will RSVP YES soon so we can meet you :-)! Feel free to email me anytime with questions or concerns.
GROUP DISCLAIMER AND GUIDELINES:
The following disclaimer and guidelines and resource links form the foundation for all Dog Lovers and Hiking Hounds of Sacramento events.
Disclaimer: Each person who participates accepts responsibility for making any determinations regarding their and their dog(s) safety, conduct and well-being; recognizes possible hazards attending outdoor activities; and accepts responsibility for all risks and liability associated with their and their dog(s) behaviour.
●Only friendly, social, and non-aggressive dogs. If you're not sure if your dog is "friendly, social, and non-aggressive", you're welcome to bring them and see. Some dogs naturally like to "play-fight" and that's okay! Unwelcome/unprovoked attacks or bullying is not. You're responsible for your dog so please make sure you have control of them and can contain them. We all know that even well-trained dogs will sometimes "disagree", but you MUST be aware and watchful of your dog at all times.
●Know and adhere to Leave No Trace (LNT) at all times. Encouraging others to do so is appreciated. Please carry bags and pick up after your dogs on all meetups!
●Passengers in carpools – Please reimburse the carpool driver $4 driver per hour driven.
●You MUST pay the annual fee of $6 to become and remain a member of this group (you have a 30 day grace period to do this - meetup offers an automatic system to do this which I use - I'm sorry but I don't have time to make exceptions to this policy). You may do this via paypal by going to "membership dues" (link on left). If need be, you may send me a check - pm me for my address but I strongly prefer electronic and it is a very secure system. This fee helps me cover the $90 I pay every 6 months to meetup to host the group (http://help.meetup.com/customer/portal/arti...). Unfortunately paypal takes 95 cents from each $6 paid to me, so the small annual fee just allows me to cover costs.
●Post a detailed description of the meetup on the website. If you are comfortable with posting and have a cell phone, it’s helpful to post this in case people get lost trying to find the meetup location.
●Please make certain that your attendees have responded “yes” to the group guidelines (under profile question #5 – click on the member to see their profile) prior to attending the meetup. Contact them if they have not. This is for your protection (although there are some generic protections provided by being a part of Meetup, most groups take his approach as well).
●Read the meetup description carefully. Be prepared physically and bring the proper equipment and trail supplies necessary for the hike. You are being unfair to other participants if you don’t do this.
●If you RSVP yes please show-up.
●Stay with your group..
●Rate your hike and provide a comment on your experience.●Contact your organizer / leader directly with any questions, comments or concerns.
●Uploading and sharing pictures of your experience is appreciated.
● Thank your host! We are all volunteers and organization take effort and time – we need to appreciate folks who are willing to take on this task!
●Please pay your annual fee so I can keep this meetup going!
