Back in 2007, a Nashville burlesque queen, Miss Lolly Pop, and her friends started the Nashville branch of the world wide organization, Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. Sketchy’s made its home in the local favorite bar, The 5 Spot, for many raucous years. After a few changes in management, from the talented artist, Patrick Arena, to the burlesque beauty, Diletta Delight, and a few location changes, the Nashville institution had its last session in 2017, after an almost decade run. The regulars and staff often talked of trying to mount it again to no avail until burlesque star, Sophie du Mal recruited DJ Psarah and resurrected it in 2019.
Third Coast Comedy is our new permanent home. Located in historic Marathon Village, Third Coast offers a gorgeous theater and a full bar for our new and returning “art monkeys” to enjoy. Bright lights and a fantastic sound system will bring a new dynamic to the classic format. Parking is ample and the location is near many hot spots in town for post-drawing meals and drinks.
The format is one thing that hasn’t changed. Every session will be themed to a pop culture or curious aesthetic. A fantastic local burlesque performer will pose in various stages of undress in tantalizing and hilarious poses to challenge the professional and delight the amateur artist. DJ Psarah, who has provided the music since the first session, will play an eclectic music of standards and way-out weirdos perfectly suited to the theme. There will be chances to share your artistic endeavors with the group to win prizes from our sponsors. Drinks and snacks will be available from the adjoining bar. Silliness and sass will abound, hence making this an 18+ event.
New things you should know is we have a new no photography policy until the end when we announce camera can come out. This is to ensure the safety and comfort of our models. Thanks for understanding. We look forward to seeing you every other month for fun adventures in outrageous art.
Usher in the Halloween spirit with GiGi La Femme, burlesque star extraordinaire, posing as Vampirella for this spooky session of Sketchy's. As ever the drinks will be flowing at the bar, the themed music will be served up by DJ Psarah, and our host, Sophie dul Mal, will guide you through both short and long form poses. Our local comic book hero, Eric Powell, is giving us some swag from his legendary series, The Goon, for prizes. All levels of expertise are welcomed - from the professional to people who have never picked up a pencil and pad before. We even have supplies for you! Tickets are $15 at the door, but there is an early bird special of $12 if you use the link below.
