The Olin Series

Hello everyone!

Happy early 4th! Hope you all are enjoying and/or surviving the heat.  We're gearing up for round three of our Olin Series and it will be a doozy. We're talking back-to-back talks on Injection Molding and Die Casting! As the material is pretty meaty, we're going to start out with the first lecture, take a meal/conversation break in between, and then dive into the second (and shorter) talk from there.

Once again, it will be for an intimate group, so we ask that if you do RSVP to update in a timely manner to allow those on the waitlist enough time to adjust their schedules.

Some additional background is below as well as a link to the first four classes.

Bonus material: We'll be taking July/August off for the traditional hangout group but we're planning something fun for the entire group in September. Stay tuned. In the meantime, for those of you in the midst of building awesome hardware products, we wanted to let you know about our Hardware Grader - it's a quick and easy way to establish areas you need to focus on (or in fact, you may find out you're further along than you think!)

Thanks so much!

The Olin Series - Background

In 2010, Scott was invited to be an adjunct professor at Olin College where he taught two courses: Design for Manufacturing & Assembly and Mechanical Design. Our plan is to now offer these courses to the greater community via a series of videos and accompanying slides.

This is, perhaps, the best meetup I have ever attended. The lecture was informative, the people were friendly, the presentation was great and the meetup, itself, was awesome. I come from a software background and with minimal knowledge about hardware, let alone raw materials and manufacturing process. So, for me, this was definitely helpful.

Thanks so much for this feedback, it's invaluable. Our number one priority has always been to help entrepreneurs learn and eventually apply those learnings to their own success. Until the next one!

It's always an educational experience to listen to Scott talk about designing parts for specific manufacturing processes and and the nuances of material selection. His presentations are salted with practical tips and tricks gleaned from years of experience getting stuff made. Hats off to Scott and Dragon for sponsoring these great events.

Really good introduction to injection molding and die casting. I would recommend these series to any hardware startups that need to learn more about designing for specific manufacturing processes.

Another great event which really highlighted all the nuances involved in just one phase (plastic injection molding) of the manufacturing process. Thanks Scott!
