Visit Kensal Green Cemetery and Little Venice

Kensal Green Cemetery and Little Venice is a good combination of subjects for drawing - old monuments and headstones at the cemetery followed by picturesque scenes with boats and bridges at Little Venice.  We will meet at Kensal Green Underground Station on the Bakerloo line.  There are no planned engineering works on the Bakerloo line that weekend but do check with http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ for other lines.  We will then walk to the cemetery http://www.kensalgreencemetery.com/ and spend the morning there.  There are a few coffee shops around at the main gate and a supermarket (with toilets!)  but it might be a good idea to come armed with a drink and a sandwich.

After the cemetery we will take the bus (no 18) to Little Venice - a canal area where the Regents and Grand Union canals meet.  We will spend the afternoon here ending up in a pub to review our work over a beer at 16.00.

Thanks to Martina, a very well organised day. I arrived a bit late at Kensal Green, so didn't have as much time as I would have liked to sketch those fabulous Mausoleums. I did sketch an interesting tomb erected for Andrew Ducrow(?) in 1837, exactly 100 years before my birthdate. It has a very Egyptian-styled architecture. I must do some research on him.
I also came across another interesting tomb. I noticed a name on a classy marble tomb - Jean Francois Gravelet Blondin who died at Niagara House, Ealing in 1897 at the age of 73. I wondered if this could be the 'Great Blondin' who walked a tightrope across Niagara Falls on a number of occasions, including carrying his manager, Harry Colcord on his back and cooking and eating an omelet half way across. He also stood on a chair with only one leg on the tightrope. This was his tomb together with his wife. I wonder how many other 'famous' names are buried in Kensal Green Cemetary.
We all then took the bus to Little Venice - and RAIN.

By the way, what do I need to bring along? Basic sketch pad and pencils or whatever I fancy to do my drawings?!
Looking forward to meet all you lovely people.

Pandora - no - we no not have meet ups on weekdays. You may be able to find other meetup groups that do. Mandy - just bring what you normally use for sketching - but don't forget you will have to carry it around with you! I carry an a4 pad with pencils and charcoal. But other people might use smaller or larger pads plus paints, ink etc

I just joined your group because I love sketching the city and your group sounded like a great idea. Unfortunately I work weekends, do you ever have meet-ups on week days?

Great location. At least the subjects don't move while your're sketching - at least I hope not! Could be scary. And then on to Little Venice. Used to be one of my stamping grounds when I worked for an ad. agency in Paddington in the 60's.
    Look forward to it.
