What we're about

This is a meet up for those interested in learning about drawing and painting from life. From his atelier in the beautiful Kasteel Sterckshof, James Jones teaches small groups of up to 5 students using a traditional approach under natural light. Students begin with cast drawing in charcoal using the 'sight-size' method. They can then advance to still life and portrait projects using charcoal, pastel and oil paint. Throughout the courses, students develop their eye to see and understand value, proportion, scale and colour. Courses are given in English and are suitable for all levels, from beginners to the more experienced.

Originally from England, James has spent 5 years training and teaching at a private studio in Florence, Italy. He has now moved to Antwerp to set up a small teaching atelier of his own.

Sessions run Saturdays and Sundays either from 10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm. There are also intensive short courses throughout the year, and the option to study both full and part-time during the week. Visit the website or contact James to arrange a tour of the studio and to discuss the various options.

Weekend Drawing and Painting Classes at the Kasteel Sterckshof

Kasteel Sterckshof

€35.00

James offers Saturday and Sunday classes throughout the year with two 3hr sessions on each day (10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm). Classes are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to more experienced artists. Working directly from nature using natural light, students will be introduced to the sight-size approach and learn to see and understand scale, form, and value. Students can choose to concentrate on cast drawing in charcoal or still life in oils. For an additional cost, students can also work from a model on figure or portrait projects. Throughout the classes students will be shown the preparation of materials, setting up compositions and arranging studio lighting. James always works alongside his students, allowing them to benefit from his example and as well as ongoing individual critiques. Class sizes are kept small with only 5 students at a time. Sessions run from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm and each 3hr session costs 35 Euro. Students are recommended to sign up for a minimum of 5 sessions to allow ample time to work on longer projects. These 5 sessions can be split over a longer period and do not need to be taken consecutively. Contact James for more information, or to arrange a tour of the atelier. http://www.jamesjonesfineart.com http://www.facebook.com/jamesjonesfineart
