Discuss the use cases for UAVs and best practices for aerial imaging .

This will be the first meeting for this group under new direction. As the name suggests, we will be focused on developing solutions in the areas of Precision farming, ecological research and general aerial survey and mapping.

Speakers will include Ken McGary from Nerds for Nature. A group that is bringing together technologists and environmental professionals to collaboratively build awesome tools to understand, protect, and revive the natural world. He will be describing a number of potential applications for drones in ecological research. The applications in this area are very interesting and will likely lead to development  in a number of areas.

Also presenting, Colin Snow. He is the founder of KopterVision. He will be discussing the fundamentals of setting up a "drone" based business as well as current FAA regulations and best practices for the commercial use of sUAVs.

As a developer of a multi rotor platform for varied aerial mapping applications, I will provide a description of varied types of image collection and processing methods as well as the types of aircraft, auto pilots and ground control software involved with sUAV operations.

There will hopefully be time for a Q&A session to follow.

Please forward information about this MeetUp to groups or individuals who may be interested in  finding out more about the use of unmanned aircraft in any of the areas described ( or ones not mentioned). This MeetUp is for exploration and development and we invite all who are interested to join.

That is an interesting article Colin. Thanks for posting that.

The article is correct. The letters were obtained via the FOIA. But the FAA may be overstepping their authority. This drone lawyer explains: http://www.bloomberg.com/video/meet-brendan-schulman-the-drone-lawyer-wobFGT1NSMCEPQmh35wzlQ.html
