What we're about

This group is for people who are interested in applied mathematics and live near Dublin. We arrange talks which illustrate how maths can be useful in the real world. We typically meet on weekday evenings near the city centre with 3 speakers each of whom is given a 20 minute slot.

The next applied maths meetup will be held in the Riot Games office from 6:30pm on Thursday 5th March 2020. We'll have 3 speakers, each will have the floor for about 20 minutes to talk about a topic related to applied maths. Dr Eoin Murphy of Riot Games will give a talk about the Magic of Bootstrapping. https://www.linkedin.com/in/eoin-murphy-phd-46966927/ John Lynch will give a talk titled: Differential Privacy Applications on Wall Street, quantifying privacy risks in data-driven trading strategies https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-lynch-1b68197a/ Philip Kinlen will talk about the mathematics of space elevators, which are probably the most interesting thing that you could do with a carbon nano-tube 50,000km long. Some of the content can be read ahead of time: http://abitofmaths.blogspot.com/2016/05/lifting-cable-above-equator.html With thanks to Riot Games for offering to host the event and for supplying refreshments.
