What is now becoming an annual week day Trail Blazers event - this is a 30km 2600m ascent walk (ok, ramble!!), so I don't need to state the obvious about the level of fitness required, however it is a great challenge to complete for any brave hikers out there. There are numerous cut-off points on this hike so anyone who is reasonably fit and/or can self navigate is welcome to come along for the experience. Organiser's decision will be final on attendees subject to fitness level and competence. On the day there will be no leaders, responsibility rests with the individual. Also, no friends and no dogs. Anybody coming along to this hike, knows what gear to bring!
Route: Carrick Little Car Park - Slieve Binnian (747m) - Wee Binian (460m) - Moolieve (332m) - Slievenaglogh (445m) Slieve Muck (674m) - Carn Mountain (588m) - Slieve Loughshannagh (619m) Slieve Meelbeg (708m) - Sleve Meelmore (687m) - Slieve Bearnagh (739m - involves a small bit of climbing to reach the top) - Hares Gap - Diamond Rocks - Slieve Corragh - Slieve Commedagh (765m to the Cairn) - Slieve Donard (849m) Bog of Donard - Dunnywater - Head Road - Carrick Little car park.
We will retire to the Carrickdale Hotel, Carrickcarnon (just off the main motorway) for some well deserved refreshments post hike.
Attendees, please arrive at Carrick Little car park no later than 08.45hrs to begin walking by 09.00hrs. Give yourself 1 hour 30-45 minutes drive time to reach Carrick Little from Dublin. Would suggest leaving Dublin by 7am to avoid any potential congestion from early morning rush hour traffic.
