Diego said something very important during his presentation. We should aim to quickly realise a minimal usable product, and then work on making it better. I found today few extra word on that: Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn, in his book The Start-up of You, sums this up perfectly:
‘Oh, I want to do it completely behind a cloak and then [remove] the cloak and everyone knows how wonderful and what a genius I am cause they think the product is so wonderful.’ That’s actually rarely the winning strategy. The actual winning strategy is ‘I’m moving, I’m getting out there and I’m adapting at a fast rate.’
    You’re missing out!
Hoffman also said this golden piece of advice that helps all of us remember everyone is in the same boat – or they were, before they were successful:
“If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”
Don’t wait until it’s perfect. Just get it done. And when it embarrasses you, do it better.

Today, I came across post on WP Mayor on "Automating WordPress Development with WP App Studio". It describes how to build plugins without coding them. Diego, what do you do think about it? wpmayor.com/wp-app-studio-review

There is a good saying that goes "if it works, but you don't know exactly why, then it doesn't work". :)
If one learns how to use a wizard, then that's what he learns: how to use a wizard. It's a bit like trying to develop websites using Frontpage (does it still exist?)

Still, there's nothing wrong in giving that tool a try. I know dozens of people who swear by Flask (a Python framework), while others think it's horrible and bloated and use an alternative called Bottle. There are supporters of Backbone.js, Angular.js, then others work with Meteor (which, as they day, will wipe away those "dinosaurs"). There are many ways to get things done :)

    I really liked it.

      hehe I feel that Diego has set the bar super high, and now it will be hard to present something of similar value to you guys. But lets wait and see who will take a challenge ;

I was going to suggest lifting the right side of the TV in the hope that the image would slide to the left a bit. Or just hit the thing.

      Ah ah!

That was a great presentation - agree? Diego put great effort in putting together the information and whether we've now changed our mind about plugin development or not - it's always helpful to understand the full picture! Thank you everyone for attending and thanks Realex for welcoming us once again. See you all in December!

I totally agree with you. Diego did a great job, and I am looking forward to his next presentation for example on Customer Support some day in the future. Thanks Rodolfo for organising it.

Great suggestions on finding ideas for plugins and it's always fun to hear Diego's sharp tongued opinions of rude customers.

    • Rodolfo M.

      Ahah, spot on!

      November 12, 2015

I was even thinking of preparing a presentation focused on customer support. "Tales from the support department", it could become a best seller.

Presentation by Diego on developing plugins was interesting, informative, helpful and well-explained.

I thought the same! Thanks for attending, hope to see you next month. R
