Intro Session

What's new and what's all happening in the community?

Session 1: Codespaces: Developing from your iPad, browser, VS Code or anywhere!

Speaker: Gerald Versluis

In this session we will look at Codespaces. The new solution by Microsoft which enabled you to move your development environment into the cloud. Do you still have an old machine sitting under your desk, perfectly configured for that one VB6 legacy app? Or is onboarding new team members costing your hours or even days?

With Codespaces you can get fix all that and get a fully powered development machine up and running in 30 seconds. Say bye to the README.md, just give people a Codespace which has everything they need.

During this session I will show you what Codespaces is and how you can start writing code without installing tools and SDKs for hours on end. We will see how to use Codespaces as a separate solution, from VS Code, in a browser and even directly built into GitHub.

Session 2: Introduction to Docker

Speaker: Quentin Barnard

This talk covers the journey from server to VM's to Docker. It covers the ideas and need for docker from an infrastructure point of view with a few basic demo's of how docker works and how one gets started with Docker.

Session 3: Stateful Serverless with Azure Functions

Speaker: Dustyn Lightfoot

The whole world is trying to do more with less these days, and with version 3 of Microsoft’s core serverless technology, Azure Functions having gone GA just a few months ago, it’s a great time to dig into this cool tech. But can you build complex systems with Azure functions, or is it more geared for simple event driven actions? In this session we will dig into Durable Functions, an aspect of Azure Functions that allows you to do stateful programming. Entity functions, a part of the Durable Functions extensions, which allows you to build systems based on the popular Actor Model, is a particularly interesting area that we’ll dig into.

Hope to see you all soon!
