What we're about

Elvet Speakers is affiliated with Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership development, with more than 357,718 members in over 16,672 clubs in 143 countries.

Elvet Speakers is a friendly public speaking club based in Durham City.

We are a diverse group, the only requirement is, you must be 18 to attend and there is no upper age limit. Our members range from professionals to students and people who enjoy their retirement.

We have some experienced speakers and many enthusiastic amateurs. We all share a passion for personal development and are committed to having fun whilst improving our speaking, leadership and time management skills.

We meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month at County Hall in Durham (with the exception of National and Bank Holidays). Meetings last about 1¾ hours and guests are very welcome to attend.

Upcoming events (5+)

Bi-weekly Public Speaking Workshop

County Hall

As a guest, you are very welcome to visit us up to 3 times, before deciding if you would like to join us. We don't force anyone to participate or speak, so be assured, if you would like to just sit and watch the meeting, this is absolutely fine. Please bring a pen, so that you can populate the speakers' evaluation slip (only if you want to). There is a spacious free of charge public car park on the site, a water dispenser for you to use and a very warm welcome from the whole club. The meeting starts at 18:45 sharp and ends not later than at 20:30. If this is your first visit, please ensure you come not later than 18:35, so that we have time to welcome you.
