What we’re about

This is a group for playing Spolin Theater Games based on Viola Spolin's "Improvisation for the Theater". The games include many different types of games. Viola's focus was to create games that teach theater principles organically, by players experiencing the principles in real time, for themselves. Her work and her son, Paul Sills, ended up discovering the power of using the games for theater and for creating improvised scenes. Paul co-founded the first improvisational theater in the country, The Compass, and then went on to co-found Second City.

However, this group is not a Comedy Improv group. It is a group about play, group collaboration, learning theater, exploring the intuitive, connection and transformation. The rally cry of a true Spolinista is "Get out of your head and into the space!" A Spolin player's vocabulary includes the vocabulary of the theater, showing the Who, What and Where of a scene, and it includes concepts that are unique and inspiring, like "Follow the Follower", "No Motion", "Heighten and Explore".

Together we will learn and grow from the games, the environment, and from each other.
