Please note that Penfield Reef has dangerous currents. When attending this meetup please obey the instructions of the Guide and heed where you are on the reef as the tide returns. Some parts of Penfield Reef are known to be cut off by the incoming tide before the furthest out point.
For last minute updates and to insure our guide can find you on Penfield Reef this Saturday we recommend that when you signup you provide your name, email address, and a contact telephone number that we can reach you at on the morning of the trip. These can be sent confidentially to [masked]. The information will not be used for any purpose other than this trip.
HOW TO FIND US:
Lighthouse Point is a small road and public access point off Fairfield Beach Road between beach homes that will take you straight to the reef. Street parking is available on Reef Rd and Fairfield Beach Rd (east of Reef Rd), leaving only a short walk to the reef.
EQUIPMENT TO BRING:
Stripers and Blues will face into the current and wait for anything edible to be washed over the reef. The cooler temps will hopefully bring the fish in close. This is an excellent spot for both Fly and Spin anglers. Waders make things easier but casting from shore or the reef as it is exposed by the outgoing tide is also possible. Fly anglers should bring an 8-10 weight rod. Intermediate sinking lines are ideal or floating lines for poppers. Standard flies include Clousers, Deceivers and other Saltwater baitfish patterns.
