Re: [ruby-81] Anyone using rbenv instead of rvm?

I really like how rbenv/ruby-build work relative to rvm. Here is how I use rbenv/ruby-build:

1. Completely remove rvm via rvm implode
2. Ensure rvm shims and ~/.rvm are gone
3. Remove rvm stuffs from bashrc or profile
4. Start a new shell
5. git clone [address removed]:sstephenson/rbenv.git ~/.rbnev
6. git clone [address removed]:sstephenson/ruby-build.git /some/place/you/keep/code
7. cd /some/place/you/keep/code/ruby-build
8. sudo ./install.sh
9. Follow rbenv install instructions from here
10. mkdir ~/.rbenv/plugins
11. git clone [address removed]/jamis/rbenv-gemset.git ~/.rbenv/plugins/rbenv-gemset (Only if you really need gemsets, which you likely don't)
12. In project dir edit .bundle/config to looks something like this:

##### .bundle/config #######
---
BUNDLE_PATH: .bundle/bundle
BUNDLE_DISABLE_SHARED_GEMS: '1'
#########################
This part ensure when you bundle install in your project dir, the gems are bundled with the project not the system. .bundle should be in .gitignore if you use git.
13. Enjoy rbenv

I rarely use gemsets now, even though the plugin from jamis works very well. Basically I only use them for non-project related gem setups that require gems that I don't want installed in the system path. These days when I run gem list I get the following:
> gem list

*** LOCAL GEMS ***

bundler [masked])
minitest (1.6.0)
rake [masked], 0.8.7)
rdoc (2.5.8)

All my project gems live in bundles as they should, and my system gems are super clean. Also, my shell is generally faster after ridding it of rvm. If you have any questions or if something isn't clear, please ask. I am typing this quickly without allot of proof reading but it should work anyhow.

Thanks,
Bram.

Jon, I noticed from your pastie content that you're not on the latest rvm. Try "rvm get latest" to see if the latest version behaves better.
